Searching for a small town but with the charms of a big city, where you’ll raise your children, plant your own trees, and throw a barbecue on a sunny Saturday? Vacaville might just be for you!
To the surprise of few Vacaville residents, the city was recently named one of the Top 10 Most Livable Small Cities in the United States in a study by the website SmartAsset.
In order to rank the most livable small cities in the country, SmartAsset looked at 11 metrics like a concentration of entertainment establishments, concentration of restaurants, bars, health care establishments, income inequality, median-home-value to median income ratio, housing cost as a percent of household income, percent of residents below the poverty line, unemployment rate, percent of residents with health insurance and average commute times.
“It’s always nice to be recognized by outside sources as a way to validate our efforts to attract businesses and create a wonderful place to raise a family,” Augustine said. “But in the end, our goal is always to continue to make Vacaville a safe place for our residents, and an inviting place for visitors.”
Vacaville’s unemployment rate is at a low 3.4 percent, an almost 21 percent drop over the previous year. (National unemployment was at 4.1 percent as of December 2017). Since attracting ICON Aircraft in 2014, the local economy has continued to grow, adding jobs, revenue to city coffers, and more.
“We have so much to offer our residents,” Augustine added. “Wonderful recreational facilities; a beautiful performing arts theater; lots of shopping; almost every possible restaurant option; and a small-town charm that really makes the community special.”
